ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –   Governor Siminalayi Fubara has withdrawn from the forthcoming governorship primary election of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Rivers State, barely 24 hours before the exercise.
Fubara announced his withdrawal in a statement personally signed on Wednesday, saying the decision followed extensive consultations with family, friends and political associates.
The governor stated that although the decision was difficult, he remained committed to the unity and progress of the party and would fully support whoever emerges as the APC governorship candidate.
“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries. I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party,” he said.
Fubara stressed that the interest of Rivers State must come above personal ambition, noting that the state’s peace, stability and unity were more important at this critical time.
According to him, political leaders and stakeholders must place the collective interest of the people above individual aspirations in order to sustain harmony and development in the state.
His withdrawal comes ahead of Thursday’s APC governorship primary, setting the stage for a fresh political realignment within the party in Rivers State.
