Less than 24 hours after a distressed owner reported his tricycle stolen, the Kano State Police Command has swooped on a six-man syndicate behind a spate of thefts — recovering stolen vehicles worth millions and a horse bought with the proceeds.
The arrests were confirmed Wednesday morning in an emergency statement by Command spokesperson Abdullahi Kiyawa, following a complaint lodged yesterday, January 24, 2026, by Ayuba Muhammad.
His tricycle, valued at ₦3.5 million, was stolen at Panshekara Quarters.
🔹 Suspects Named — One as Young as 17
Police have taken the following suspects into custody:
-
Salim Zakari, 20

Faruk Abubakar, 17

Mastur Shehu, 19

Safiyanu Suleiman, 23
A sixth suspect, Umar Bello Dahiru, 24, was arrested for knowingly buying the stolen tricycle.
“Umar Bello Dahiru confessed to buying the tricycles knowing they were stolen,” Kiyawa stated.
🔹 Second Tricycle, Horse Also Seized
In a dramatic turn, police investigations linked the gang to another tricycle theft at Yankusa Quarters — also sold to Dahiru.
Both tricycles — including the one stolen just yesterday — have been recovered.
But that’s not all.
Operatives also uncovered a horse valued at ₦800,000, allegedly bought by the principal suspects using cash from their illegal trade.
Yes — a horse, purchased with stolen money.
🔹 Victims Reunited With Vehicles — Swift Justice Promised
The command has confirmed that both Ayuba Muhammad and Abdullahi Adamu have been reunited with their tricycles.
Police say investigations are ongoing and urgent, with more arrests possible.
“The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspects involved in criminal conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen property,” Kiyawa said.
🔹 Police Warning: ‘We Are Coming for Buyers Too’
In a clear message to the public, the Command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on handling stolen goods.
If you buy stolen property — even a tricycle, even a horse — you are a target.
