Lagos (Precise Post) -Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos state and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) have given different statistics for the number of COVID-19 cases, recoveries and deaths in the state.
The NCDC statistics is also different in many respects from that supplied by the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi.
According to the NCDC statistics dated July 31, 2020 and titled, ‘COVID-19 SITUATION REPORT 154, Friday, 31ST July 2020,” Lagos had 15,121 total confirmed cases, 2,148 discharged cases and 192 deaths.
The report also listed 78 new cases and three newly discharged patients as of July 31, 2020.
Again, NCDC states in the July 31 document that Lagos had 12,781 total active COVID cases.
The NCDC statistics is different from the one stated by Governor Sanwo-Olu for the same time frame, however.
At a Press briefing by Governor Sanwo-Olu on Saturday, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria, he was quoted to have said, “As of July 31, Lagos State has had a total of 15,150 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 10,835 persons who had recovered and [had been] discharged.
“We have sadly lost 194 persons to the virus.
“This leaves us with 1,813 active cases in community and 96 under management across various isolation centres in the state.”
The governor spoke while addressing Lagosians on gradual easing of COVID-19 lockdown at the Lagos House, Marina, on Saturday, August 1, 2020, NAN reported.
