Abuja (Precise Post) – Former federal lawmaker that represented Kogi West Senatorial District at the 8th Assembly, Senator Dino Melaye has described as shameful and a total disgrace, the planned move by the federal government to expend N400 billion on the importation of COVID-19 vaccine.
Dino who took to his twitter handle account to express his disappointment, wondered why the most populous black country with over 150 Universities and thousands of core scientist not be able to develop its own vaccine.
“Why use 400 billion Naira to import vaccine when our professors need less than 50 billion to deliver, Dina asked
The tweet reads” It’s sad, shameful and a total disgrace. Why can’t the largest Black country with over 150 universities and thousands of core scientists develop it’s own vaccine? Why use 400 billion Naira to import vaccine when our professors need less than 50 billion to deliver!!!
Precise Post recalls that the the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire had on December 22 while briefing the Senate leadership on the Federal Government plans to procure COVID-19 vaccines for citizens, said that about N400 billion is needed to vaccinate 70 percent of Nigeria’s 211 million population: N156 billion will be needed in 2021, N200 billion in 2022.
Dr. Ehanire stated that the government was substantially ready for a successful COVID-19 vaccination to save lives of the citizens.
He also told the Senate that the country, which had successfully fought polio, would use the same storage facilities (cold chains) to store the COVID-19 vaccines, urging the Senate to have confidence in the plan for COVID-19 vaccine campaign.
Lawan said the National Assembly was ready to support the funding of adequate vaccines to save Nigerians.
