Edo Election: Eschew Violence, Oba Ewuare II Urges Obaseki, Ize-Iyamu

Abuja (Precise Post) – Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, has called on Governor Godwin Obaseki of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) and the governorship candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), to eschew ahead of the 19th Guber election in the state.

The Benin Monarch who condemned the recent attack on the re-election campaign convoy of the governor at the palace gate, stressed the need for the political actors to embrace peace and tolerance ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

On his part, Governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki assured the Oba that as the Executive Governor and Chief Security Officer of the state, and having committed enough resources to ensure safety of the citizens of our state, he will never encourage .

Obaseki disclosed the news of the peace meeting at the palace of Oba when he took to his Twitter handle account and tweeted thus:

“Earlier today, I and other political actors in Edo State were invited to the palace of the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, .”


“Condemning the recent attack on my reelection campaign convoy at the palace gate, our highly revered monarch called on us to eschew violence and embrace peace and tolerance ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.”


“HRM sought for assurances from all political gladiators and a halt to the rising shooting and violence in the state and ensued for peace between one and all.”


“On my part, I assured the royal father that as the Executive Governor and Chief Security Officer of the state, I have sworn to uphold the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and protect the lives and property of our people.”


“Having committed enough resources to ensure safety of the citizens of our state, I will never encourage violence, as it would be irresponsible of me to do anything which would lead to the breakdown of law and order. “

Precise Post recalls that the Inspector General of Police had few days ago warned the politicians in the state to play by the rules.
