Former Director of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign, Oladimeji Fabiyi, has strongly criticized the ongoing political events in Rivers State, describing them as “completely illegitimate and full of illegality.”
Speaking on Arise Television on Monday, Fabiyi reacted to the outcome of the recently concluded local government elections in Rivers State, warning that Nigeria’s democracy is being undermined.
Fabiyi expressed deep concern over the political developments in the state, particularly the appointment of a Sole Administrator and the conduct of local council elections.
“I want to be clear—I do not align with what has happened in Rivers State. Everything that has taken place in the last six months has been illegal,” Fabiyi declared.
He further likened the situation to a scripted drama, accusing political actors of compounding illegality with more illegality.
“It’s just like when you tell a lie—you need more lies to cover it. That’s exactly what is happening in Rivers. From the appointment of the Sole Administrator to the conduct of elections, nothing has been legitimate,” he stressed.
The PDP stalwart added that the party itself is divided, with one group that understands the gravity of the situation and another that appears clueless.
Fabiyi’s comments come amid widespread controversy and legal disputes surrounding governance in Rivers State, sparking renewed debates on the future of democracy and rule of law in Nigeria.
