Abuja (Precise Post) – The federal government has approved the new teachers retirement age under the harmonised Retirement Age for Teachers Bill, 2021.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) gave the approval at its meeting on Wednesday at the State House.
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, who disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, said the bill also seeks to give legal backing to new measures by the current administration to enhance the teaching profession in the country
With the approval, the Federal Government is set to send the bill to the National Assembly.
The bill, among other recommendations, seeks to change the retirement age of teachers in the country from 60 to 65.
It also seeks to change the years of service for teachers from 35 to 40.
The approval was given at a meeting of the council presided over by the President Muhammadu Buhari.
