ABUJA (PRECISE POST) — Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reiterated the Federal Government’s resolve to overhaul the country’s correctional system, tighten border security through technology, and strengthen financial accountability across institutions, the statement released on the official X handle of Ministry of Interor said.
Speaking during a visit by Haruna Yahaya of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, the minister outlined a reform agenda focused on shifting correctional centres toward rehabilitation and reintegration, rather than punishment alone.
Tunji-Ojo noted that new technological systems, including the CIMAS, are already enhancing surveillance at Nigeria’s borders, helping to curb irregularities and improve national security outcomes.
On fiscal governance, the minister stressed the importance of preventive financial controls to block leakages before they occur, while calling for closer collaboration with ICAN to improve transparency and accountability in public finance.
He also advocated innovative funding strategies, particularly public-private partnerships, as a means to expand critical services and infrastructure within the ministry’s mandate.
In response, Yahaya commended the ongoing reforms and proposed the creation of a joint task force between the ministry and ICAN. The initiative, he said, would focus on strengthening revenue assurance mechanisms and reducing financial leakages across government institutions.
The engagement signals a broader push by the Federal Government to combine institutional reform, technology, and professional collaboration in addressing longstanding challenges in security and public sector management.
