Abuja – Nigerian troops on Sunday killed some operatives of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in an encounter while trying to attack the Imo State Police Command in the early hours.
The militant operatives who were taken down was one ‘King of the Dragons’, whose real name is Joseph Uka Nnachi who was said to have been coordinating attacks on security agents in Imo State among four others.
In a statement which was issued by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima said, the troops, which were “assisted by the Police Special Forces, eliminated a top IPOB/ESN Operational Commander, Joseph Uka Nnachi (alias King of Dragons), who has been orchestrating attacks against security agencies and government establishments in the South Eastern states.
“He has been at the centre of several heinous attacks since the death of Ikonso who gave up the ghost during an encounter with security forces on 24 April 2021 at Awomama village of Orlu East LGA of Imo state.
“Equally neutralised along with Dragon were four of his cohorts while one was captured alive and has been assisting security forces with useful information.
“The troops recovered four AK-47 Rifles, a Toyota Hiace mini bus used as operational vehicle by the assailants as well as several assorted ammunition and charms,” the statement reads.
The Army said, since the attack was launched by the suspected IPOB/ESN terrorists on the Imo State Police Command on 5th April, 2021, operatives have been trailing the criminals which has led to the successful elimination of the key figures involved.
The military commended indigenes of Imo State for their cooperation and understanding while they strive to combat security challenges in the South East and the rest of the country.
