Obi who stated this on Saturday when he took to his X handle highlighted that in yet another horrifying chapter of Nigeria’s deepening security crisis, gunmen unleashed terror in Imo State, brutally killing about 30 innocent people.
Obi said that the gruesome massacre, which occurred without provocation, has once again exposed the frightening reality of daily life in a country increasingly defined by bloodshed, fear, and lawlessness. This latest act of carnage is not only a tragic loss of lives—it is a chilling reflection of a nation sliding deeper into a culture of normalized violence.
“This inhuman act must be condemned by all,” he said, and asking, “How can we build a society of responsible citizens when human life is discarded so cheaply?”
He said the killing is a stark reminder of Nigeria’s collective failure to uphold the sanctity of life. The frequency of such attacks has desensitized the public and cast a dark shadow over the nation’s prospects for peace and progress.
There is growing outrage over what many see as the government’s inability—or unwillingness—to fulfill its constitutional duty to protect lives and property. Security, critics argue, has become a luxury in many parts of the country.
“This trend must stop. Nigerians cannot continue to live in fear. The government must rise to the occasion, investigate this massacre thoroughly, arrest the killers, and bring them to justice,” the statement continued.
