ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has called on eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise, stressing that the journey to building a better country begins with registering to vote rather than waiting for Election Day.
Obi made the appeal on his X handle Thursday after an impromptu stop at Waru Wazobia in Abuja, where he interacted with residents, particularly youths and women, urging them to participate actively in the electoral process by obtaining their voter registration.
According to the former Anambra State governor, voter registration is the foundation of democratic participation and a critical step towards achieving the desired transformation in Nigeria.
“The power to change Nigeria does not begin on Election Day; it begins with voter registration,” Obi said, adding that registering to vote is not merely a civic obligation but “an investment in the future we all desire.”
Addressing the gathering, he encouraged every eligible Nigerian who has yet to register to do so without delay, while also urging those already in possession of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to mobilise others.
He called on registered voters to persuade family members, friends, neighbours and colleagues to enrol in the ongoing exercise, noting that widespread participation would strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and give citizens a greater voice in determining the country’s future.
Obi maintained that meaningful national transformation cannot be achieved through passive hope or mere expressions of dissatisfaction, but through deliberate civic engagement.
“A New Nigeria will not happen through wishful thinking. It will be built by citizens who participate, who believe, and who act,” he said.
The former presidential candidate further urged Nigerians to embrace hope instead of despair, active participation instead of political apathy, and unity instead of division, insisting that collective action remains the surest path to nation-building.
Reaffirming his popular campaign mantra, Obi concluded by expressing optimism that a better Nigeria remains achievable if citizens continue to play their part in the democratic process.
“A New Nigeria is POssible,” he declared.
