ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has congratulated Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan on his re-election as Secretary General of the African Public Relations Association (APRA), describing the development as a deserved recognition of his professionalism, dedication and outstanding contributions to the advancement of public relations across Africa.
The congratulatory message was conveyed on Sunday in a statement signed by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, released on the officual X handle of the Ministry.
Precise Post recalls that Dr. Ibietan secured another term at the APRA General Assembly held in Swakopmund, Namibia, where Mr. Arik Karani of Kenya was elected President and Professor Michele Mekeme of Cameroon emerged as Vice President.
In a congratulatory message issued on Sunday, the minister said Ibietan’s re-election reflects the confidence reposed in him by public relations practitioners across the continent and underscores his capacity to drive the association’s vision.
“On behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, I congratulate Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan on his well-deserved re-election as Secretary General of APRA. This honour is not only a recognition of his professional excellence but also a source of pride for Nigeria and the entire communications community,” Idris stated.
The minister expressed confidence that Ibietan would continue to provide purposeful leadership as APRA strengthens collaboration among communication professionals across Africa and advances initiatives that support the continent’s digital transformation agenda.
He also commended the African Public Relations Association for its sustained commitment to promoting ethical communication, professional excellence and capacity development within the public relations industry.
According to Idris, APRA has continued to play a pivotal role in strengthening the practice of public relations across Africa while fostering collaboration among communication professionals on the continent.
The minister further noted that Nigeria is looking forward to hosting the 37th APRA Annual Conference alongside the World Public Relations Forum in Abuja later this year, expressing optimism that the event would further enhance professional exchanges and showcase Nigeria’s growing role in shaping strategic communications in Africa.
