ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Former President Goodluck Jonathan has praised the autobiography of former Head of State Yakubu Gowon, describing the book as an important contribution to preserving Nigeria’s historical memory and strengthening national unity.
Jonathan made the remarks on his Facebook page Tuesday, after the public presentation of “My Life of Duty and Allegiance”, the autobiography written by General Gowon.
The former President said he joined other distinguished Nigerians at the event to honour Gowon for documenting his personal experiences, reflections, and years of dedicated service to the nation.
According to Jonathan, autobiographies written by leaders who played pivotal roles in shaping the country’s history are essential resources for future generations because they provide firsthand accounts of significant national events.
He noted that such works help preserve the country’s collective memory and offer deeper insight into Nigeria’s political and historical journey.
Jonathan expressed confidence that Gowon’s autobiography would become a valuable reference material for scholars, policymakers, military officers, students, and Nigerians interested in understanding the nation’s challenges, achievements, and pursuit of peace and unity.
He said the book highlights the enduring commitment of patriotic leaders towards building a peaceful, united, and progressive Nigeria for future generations.
The former President further congratulated Gowon on what he described as a landmark achievement and prayed for God to continue to grant the elder statesman strength, wisdom, peace, and good health.
Precise Post recalls that General Gowon served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1966 to 1975 and remains one of the country’s most prominent elder statesmen.
