ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Candidate for the Bassa/Dekina Federal Constituency of Kogi State, Hon. Daniel Oné Ejigbo, has called for sustained security in Kogi State following the release of biraidu kidnap victims.
Ejigbo, in a statement on Saturday, described the release of seven kidnapped victims among whom were children as a major relief to the community, while appreciating those who contributed to securing the freedom of the victims.
He specifically commended the Ayidu of Biraidu, the paramount ruler, for his leadership and coordination efforts, as well as the Kogi East Security Watch for their bravery, intelligence and commitment to the community.
He commended local vigilante groups and hunters in Biraidu, describing them as “true heroes” for risking their lives in the bush to protect residents.
Ejigbo further appreciated youth leaders, community elders and other individuals who contributed to the efforts through prayers, support and other forms of assistance.
According to him, the successful release of the victims demonstrates what communities can achieve through unity and collective action.
However, he stressed that the release should not be seen as the end of the security challenge confronting the area.
“While we celebrate this release, we must remind the Government of Kogi State and the Federal Security Agencies that our people cannot continue to rely only on local vigilantes to do what government should do,” he said.
He called for sustained government intervention, including the establishment of a permanent security presence along the Biraidu corridor, improved logistics and funding for local vigilante groups, and the clearing of criminal hideouts in surrounding forests.
“Local efforts saved us today, but government must do the needful to prevent tomorrow’s kidnapping,” he added.
Ejigbo said sustainable security was necessary to enable farmers to return to their farms without fear, stressing that the safety of rural communities should remain a priority for government and security agencies.
He also welcomed the released victims back home and prayed for their recovery from the trauma associated with their abduction.
