The Labour Party (LP) Chairman in Apapa Local Government Area of Lagos State, Prince Femi Badia, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside several LP members from Lagos Central.
Badia announced the move at the APC Lagos Central Senatorial District Mega Rally, held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena (formerly Onikan Stadium) in Lagos.
He explained that the decision was driven by the impressive performance of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and a desire to support both the governor and President Bola Tinubu in securing re-election in 2027.
“We are here to work with the APC to ensure victory in the upcoming council polls for all chairmanship and councillorship candidates,” Badia declared. “From now, we begin ‘Operation Go to Your Polling Units and Deliver for APC.’ I can also assure you that in the 2027 general elections, our President will emerge victorious.”
Badia, who thanked APC leaders for welcoming the group, noted that the defectors came from four local governments within the district.
APC Welcomes New Members, Urges Commitment
Receiving the defectors, Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, praised the efforts of Alhaji Babatunde Balogun, Chairman of the Local Government Campaign Council, for facilitating the defection.
Presenting party flags to the new members, Ojelabi assured them of full integration into the party while emphasizing that rewards would depend on their contributions and dedication.
“Thank you for seeing the reality of the progressives,” Ojelabi said. “Our candidates will not disappoint you; they are there to complement Governor Sanwo-Olu’s work. The opposition is in disarray, and together we will achieve victory.”
Sanwo-Olu Calls for Mobilisation
Represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged party faithful to prepare for the elections by ensuring they have their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and actively mobilise support across the Lagos Central Senatorial District.
“We must not put our President to shame on Saturday. President Tinubu is known for promises made and promises kept. We have achieved so much in Lagos, and the APC remains a party we can proudly present to voters,” he said.
Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs. Mojisola Meranda, also called on residents to turn out in large numbers and vote for APC candidates to ensure a resounding victory at the polls.
