LAGOS- The Concerned Nation Builders Initiative (CNI), an NGO, has urged party faithful and candidates to ensure peaceful conducts in the Lagos State Local Government election, slated for July 12.
The Coordinator of the NGO, Mr Gbolahan Rasaki, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Epe.
Rasaki urged eligible voters across the state to exercise their democratic rights conscientiously, while maintaining a peaceful atmosphere before, during, and after the polls.
Rasaki stressed that peaceful elections remained essential for sustaining democratic principles and promoting inclusive governance at the grassroots level.
According to him, violence and political unrest not only undermine electoral processes, it also erode public trust in democratic institutions.
Rasaki encouraged political parties and candidates to campaign responsibly, avoid hate speeches, and respect the rule of law.
He said his organisation had been actively engaging communities through voter education, peace building workshops, and stakeholder dialogues.
” It is aimed at fostering tolerance and mutual respect among diverse groups,” he added.
Rasaki also appealed to security agencies and the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to ensure a level playing field for all participants.
“LASIEC must act professionally in protecting electoral materials, and its officials throughout the process,” he said.(NAN)
