Ikeja – A 39-year-old man, Ganiyu Lasisi, on Monday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing valuables worth N259,000 from an apartment.
Lasisi, who resides at Iyana-Ipaja area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of break-in and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp, Emmanuel Ajayi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 20 at Agege.
Ajayi alleged that the defendant unlawfully broke into the apartment of the Complainant, Mr Oyerinde Oyewale, and carted away some of his property.
“He stole 49 inches LCD television valued at N99,000, an Apple laptop worth N120,000 and a 12 inches mattress worth N40,000, all totaling N259,000.
“The mattress was recovered from the defendant and he was handed over to the Police,’’ the prosecutor said.
Lasisi said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three years jail term for stealing, while Section 307 attracts seven years jail term for break-in.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O Fagbohun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Fagbohun said that the surety should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case until Nov. 14 for mention.
