ABUJA- Traditional ruler, Mbege Ka Michika, in Adamawa, Bulus Gadiga, has commended the leadership qualities of the NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd).
He also assured that his community is ready to collaborate with the NDLEA in the fight against substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking across the area.
The royal father gave the commendation on Monday in Abuja when he led members of his council on a courtesy visit to Marwa, an indigene of Michika.
Mbege Ka Michika noted that Marwa had for years contributed greatly to the development of Michika through infrastructure, scholarships, and various community support projects.
According to him, the visit was to appreciate Marwa’s support and reaffirm the kingdom’s backing for President Bola Tinubu’s agenda to eradicate illicit drugs nationwide.
He described Marwa’s leadership as visible and impactful, saying he had become a household name in Michika and across Nigeria for his remarkable public service.
The traditional ruler said the Michika community would continue to rely on Marwa’s vast experience in promoting youth empowerment and local development initiatives.
He disclosed that, as part of partnership efforts, letters had been sent to churches and mosques warning that the community would not tolerate drug abuse or trafficking.
He added that the community remained open to further collaboration with the NDLEA on sensitisation campaigns and enforcement of drug-related laws.
In his remarks, Marwa congratulated the traditional ruler on his well-deserved appointment to the exalted stool and thanked him for the continued support to the NDLEA.
He also expressed appreciation for being among the first indigenes of Michika to receive a chieftaincy title from the traditional institution.
Marwa noted that drug abuse posed a threat to all communities and called for collective action from government, religious bodies, and traditional institutions.
He commended the Mbege Ka Michika’s support for the NDLEA command in Michika, particularly in logistics, and urged other traditional rulers to emulate the gesture.
Marwa appealed to youths to stay away from drugs, stressing that substance abuse damages health, destroys families, and weakens community values.
He encouraged the royal father to establish a drug control committee within his domain to maintain regular interaction with the NDLEA.
Other members of the traditional ruler’s entourage included Gen. Bitrus Kangye (rtd), Amb. Ibrahim Mohammed Bashir, Dr John Quaghe, and Halima Buba. (NAN)
