ABUJA – The federal lawmaker that represented Kaduna Central Senatorial District at the 8th Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani has said that President Bola Tinubu should not repeat the mistakes former President Muhammadu Buhari made for eight years in office.
According to him, Buhari allowed ministers and service chiefs to remain in officer despite the clear abysmal performance of some them because they were from his rehion as if a country with a population of over 200million people lacks competent people to replace them.
He stated this on Saturday when he appeared on “Talking Politics” Programme on AIT to discuss the state of the nation.
The Human Rights Activist also hit hard on the northern senators of the 8th senate whom he said were not happy with him because he was always lamenting during plenary that the federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari was not doing enough to curtail the insecurity in the north.
According to him, it was almost seen as a blasphemy for a northerners to criticise President Buhari at that time because he is from same region, same religion and therefore no effort should be spared to support him.
He therefore said it will be unfair and a moral burden for the same northerners to want to blame President Tinubu for the insecurity in the north when they could not speak up during the eight years administration of President Buhari even when all the Service Chiefs were also northerners and school children were kidnapped almost every orher time and some in captivity for two years before their release is secured.
According to the Kaduna born politician, ” most of my northern senators were not happy with me because I always raise my hand to speak against the spate of insecurity in the north because they felt Buhari is from our own region and religion. So now they have a moral burden to criticise Tinubu for insecurity in the north.
“One of the mistakes of Buhari was that he allowed people to stay in a position for eight years because they are from your own region as if the country lacks people to replace them. The insecurity in the north was alarming despite that it was northerners that was the Service Chiefs in the country then” So Tinubu will be making a costly mistake if he toes the path of Buhari. He should not make appointment based on his tribe and religion but look for competent hands to run the country and when an appointee fails to petform, such an appointee should be removed and replace and that will make public officer sit up and deliver good governance.
On the issue of minimum wage, Comrade Shehu Sani said the reason why the people will find it difficult to believe government is when you expect them to make sacrifice and they are not seeing the same thing in your conduct and style of life. He said the government should show that they feel the pain and hardship the people are going through. He lamented that cost of food items now have have reached the mountain top, adding that rice and tomotoes are now luxury. He said the government should encourage state governments to be reasonable and come up with will reflect the understanding that things are hard and that Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress(TUC) should also come down so that they can meet at a rational point.
