ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –  The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has bemoaned the sealing of the office of Amb. Tobore Alex Agbah, who organised the party’s recent march in Ughelli, Delta State.

The party, in a statement released on its official X handle on Sunday, described the action as an attempt to punish Agbah for exercising what it described as his constitutional rights to freedom of association and peaceful assembly.

The NDC alleged that the development reflected intolerance of opposition activities by the Delta State Government, arguing that a government confident in its record should not resort to actions capable of intimidating opposition organisers.

According to the party, the sealing of Agbah’s office was an indication of growing political tension ahead of the 2027 elections.

It claimed that no amount of intimidation would prevent citizens from expressing their political choices, while calling on the Inspector-General of Police to urgently provide adequate security for opposition members across Delta State.

The NDC also urged the Nigeria Police Force to ensure that no citizen is punished for engaging in lawful political activities, stressing that the police must not be used to suppress political dissent.

The party further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sanction any political actor or party found attempting to intimidate, harass or obstruct opposition parties.

It argued that free, fair and credible elections could not be guaranteed in an environment where political offices were allegedly sealed and organisers targeted for mobilising citizens.

The NDC urged its members not to be deterred by what it described as persecution and intimidation, assuring them of the party’s commitment to defending their rights to peaceful assembly as guaranteed by the Constitution.

The party said it would continue to defend the civic space and resist what it described as attempts to create an atmosphere of fear ahead of the 2027 elections.

The NDC also expressed support for Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, urging its supporters and Deltans to back his candidacy in the forthcoming political contest.

Precise Post recalls that the party maintained that the future political direction of Delta State would ultimately be determined by voters at the polls.
