ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports claiming that the party does not have governorship candidates in 12 states ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the reports as false and deliberately designed to undermine its growing political influence across the country.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Osa Director, Esq., in a statement issued on Sunday, said the NDC had duly nominated governorship candidates in all the 28 states where governorship elections are scheduled to hold in 2027.
Director described the reports as “false, malicious” and an attempt to mislead Nigerians, insisting that the NDC was fully prepared and had established structures across the country.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the NDC has duly nominated and has governorship candidates in all the 28 states where governorship elections will take place in 2027,” he said.
According to him, the NDC is not a regional political party but a national movement with candidates, structures and supporters across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
He specifically listed the party’s governorship candidates in the 12 states allegedly mentioned in the reports as follows:
Zamfara State: Senator Kabiru Marafa
Borno State: Rtd. Rear Admiral Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim
Cross River State: Hon. John Odey
Akwa Ibom State: Babanta Michael Okon
Ebonyi State: Nwofe Boniface
Plateau State: Yakubu Solomon Ndam
Katsina State: Ilu-Barde Aliyu
Kebbi State: Alhaji Umar Usman Besse
Yobe State: Jonga Yahaya Gabakau
Jigawa State: Dutse Aminu Sani
Taraba State: Prof. Yahaya Mohammed Sani
Niger State: Abdu Sidi Bomi
The NDC spokesman also appealed to media organisations, journalists, bloggers and content creators to verify information before publishing, stressing that credible journalism depends on accuracy and proper verification.
“We urge media houses, journalists, bloggers, and content creators to scrutinize their sources and verify information before publishing. Journalism thrives on truth, not rumours,” he said.
He warned that the circulation of unverified claims could undermine public confidence in both the media and the democratic process.
Director said the party would remain focused on what he described as “issue-based politics” and would not be distracted by what he called “sponsored falsehoods.”
According to him, Nigerians are increasingly dissatisfied with the existing political order and are looking for an alternative capable of addressing the country’s challenges.
He said the NDC was presenting itself as that alternative, citing its proposed focus on security, employment creation, accountability and national development.
“Nigerians are tired of the old order. They are tired of recycled failures. The NDC is the preferred party to salvage Nigeria,” he said.
The National Publicity Secretary called on Nigerians to join the party’s political movement ahead of the 2027 elections, declaring that “the rescue mission has started.”
