ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has warned party officials and state chapters against preventing duly cleared aspirants from participating in the party’s ongoing primaries ahead of the 2026 general elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., the Screening and Selection Committees of the party said reports had emerged from some parts of the country alleging that certain aspirants were being barred from taking part in the exercise despite completing the screening process.
The party stated that all aspirants who successfully passed through the screening exercise had been officially cleared and were therefore eligible to contest in the primaries.
According to the statement, any attempt by any state chapter or party official to stop a duly cleared aspirant from participating in the process is “null, void, and of no effect whatsoever.”
“No aspirant should be denied the opportunity to participate in the primaries in any part of the country,” the statement read.
The NDC reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, transparency, fairness, and inclusivity, describing itself as a progressive and people-oriented political party.
The party said it was unacceptable for any arm of its administrative structure to act contrary to its guiding principles and internal regulations.
The statement further directed party members and officials at all levels to ensure that the primaries are conducted peacefully, transparently, and strictly in line with the constitution, guidelines, and regulations of the party.
The NDC also announced that its presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and State Assembly primaries would hold nationwide on May 29, 2026.
It clarified that while State Assembly primaries would be conducted within the respective constituency areas, all other primaries would take place at the local government level as earlier communicated by the party leadership.
