ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The National Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening data protection, privacy, and responsible data governance in Nigeria’s broadcasting and digital ecosystem.
The National Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, Vincent Olatunji, described the agreement as a major milestone in efforts to deepen data privacy and build trust in Nigeria’s digital economy in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Olatunji, who took to his X handle on Tuesday to disclose this. said the partnership underscored the importance of collaboration among regulatory agencies in creating a resilient and privacy-conscious ecosystem, noting that the mandates of both the NDPC and the National Broadcasting Commission cut across virtually all sectors of the economy.
He commended the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the NBC, Charles Ebuebu, for his commitment to inter-agency collaboration and efforts toward promoting responsible data governance within the broadcasting sector.
According to him, rapid technological advancement continues to reshape the media and broadcasting landscape, making data protection increasingly central to innovation, regulation and public trust.
He added that both agencies would, through the MoU, collaborate to promote global best practices, strengthen institutional capacity and ensure that privacy and data protection remain integral to Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
The NDPC boss further disclosed that a joint working group had been established to ensure the effective implementation of the agreement between the two regulatory bodies.
