ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The main reason why
former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries has been revealed.
In a strongly worded statement issued after the primaries, Amaechi alleged that a large number of party members across the country were denied the opportunity to vote, insisting that the announced results were “concocted.”
He therefore described the exercise as fraudulent and inconsistent with the party’s promise of transparency and fairness
The former Rivers State governor said he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome of the primaries if the process was credible, free, fair, and transparent.
According to him, the conduct of the exercise failed to reflect the democratic ideals the ADC claimed to represent in its mission to provide Nigerians with an alternative platform capable of rescuing the country from what he described as impunity and mismanagement by the ruling party.
Amaechi alleged that nearly 80 percent of party members were disenfranchised during the exercise, questioning the legitimacy of the process and the integrity of the outcome announced by the party leadership.
“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” he stated.
He further warned that the ADC risked losing its moral authority to criticize the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) if it engaged in the same electoral malpractices it had previously condemned.
The former minister accused party officials of vote buying, result manipulation, and other irregularities, stressing that such practices were unacceptable in a party seeking to position itself as a credible alternative for Nigerians.
Amaechi maintained that the ADC was created to amplify the voices of ordinary Nigerians regardless of ethnicity, religion, or social background, adding that the integrity of its internal democratic process must not be compromised.
His rejection of the primary results is expected to deepen tensions within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
