ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Elder statesman Alhaji Buba Galadima has raised strong concerns over Nigeria’s rising insecurity and mounting debt profile, warning that the country risks being “sold as slaves” if citizens and leaders fail to speak out.
Galadima made the remarks during AIT media interview anchored by broadcaster Funke on Saturday.
The vocal elderstatesman defended the right of every Nigerian, including Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, to express alternative views on national issues. He said dissenting voices often provide more honest perspectives than those close to power.
According to him, “if you are looking for the truth, ask your enemy or opponent, because you will never get it from sycophants and bootlickers.” He added that while he does not have to agree with all of Gumi’s positions, he is willing to “pick the good and throw away the trash.”
Galadima criticised the federal government’s growing reliance on foreign loans, warning that future generations may bear the burden indefinitely. “We have been sold as slaves by taking loans that our grandchildren may never repay,” he said.
He further lamented the escalating insecurity across the country, describing the situation as frightening and urging urgent government intervention to restore public confidence.
The discussion, which lasted about 20 minutes, also highlighted Galadima’s longstanding role in national politics, including his service as spokesperson to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar during the 2019 presidential election.
