ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has commended Dr Folaseye and her medical team for successfully conducting free adenotonsillectomy surgeries for children, urging Nigerians to continue contributing their quota to nation-building.
Dr Folaseye disclosed this in a post on her X handle on Monday after she was received by Obasanjo, who personally invited her to commend and appreciate the initiative.
According to her, the former President’s words went beyond appreciation as he charged her and other Nigerians committed to serving humanity to remain dedicated to the country and not give up on Nigeria.
She said Obasanjo reminded her that there was hope for Nigeria when individuals contributed their skills and resources towards nation-building.
“He encouraged me, and others like me, not to give up on our country,” she said.
Dr Folaseye said the former President also asked her to convey his appreciation to members of her team for giving back to Nigeria through their medical and surgical expertise.
She described Obasanjo’s recognition of the sacrifices and commitment behind the initiative as deeply humbling.
The former President also recalled with appreciation the free cataract surgeries, eye treatments and distribution of free eyeglasses conducted by Vision Savers, led by Sarkin Fulani, Dr Kamal Abacha.
Dr Folaseye explained that the adenotonsillectomy programme was her first self-sponsored medical outreach, expressing hope that increased support would enable her team to undertake more initiatives in the future.
She said Obasanjo encouraged her to continue with the humanitarian work.
Reflecting on the initiative, Dr Folaseye said it was founded on the conviction that no child should be denied the opportunity to breathe, sleep, grow and live a better life simply because their family could not afford surgery.
“As the last children are discharged and this chapter comes to an end, I am reminded that service to humanity is one of the highest forms of patriotism,” she said.
She expressed appreciation to her medical team for donating their time, expertise and commitment to the children, as well as to Nigerians who prayed for, encouraged and supported the initiative.
The outreach culminated in 65 free adenotonsillectomy surgeries, providing medical intervention to children who might otherwise have been unable to afford the procedures.
Dr Folaseye said Obasanjo’s message had left her deeply encouraged, particularly his reminder that Nigeria needed citizens who would choose service over giving up on the country.
“Nigeria is worth fighting for. Nigeria is worth serving,” she declared, attributing the success of the initiative to God Almighty.
