PORT HARCOURT (PRECISE POST) – Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the forthcoming 2027 general election, Peter Obi, has joined family members and friends in mourning the death of Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, mother of former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
Obi disclosed this in a statement posted on his X handle on Saturday, saying he and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso visited Amaechi at his Port Harcourt residence on Friday, September 4, to offer their condolences following the death of his mother.
According to Obi, he subsequently joined the Amaechi family and friends at the Vigil Mass held in honour of the deceased, who died at the age of 89.
He described the death of a parent as a deeply painful experience, noting that words often fail to adequately capture the depth of grief and sense of loss associated with such a moment.
Obi, however, said the family could draw consolation from the fact that Dame Amaechi lived a good and fulfilling life, touching many lives and making lasting contributions to her community and the Church.
The former Governor of Anambra State described her life as one characterised by faith, service, love and positive impact, adding that she left behind a legacy that would continue through her children, family, community and others who knew her.
“Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi will forever remain in our hearts and prayers,” Obi said.
He prayed for the repose of her soul and those of all the faithful departed.
“May her gentle soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in perfect peace. Amen,” he added.
