ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –  Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, has renewed his call for national unity, saying Nigeria’s future depends on collective action, purposeful leadership, and a shared commitment to service.

According to the statement released on his X handle, Obi made the remarks on Saturday while attending the 60th Birthday Symposium of former Sokoto State Governor and Senator, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, an event that drew a high-profile gathering of prominent Nigerians.

Among those present were former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ADC National Chairman Senator David Mark, former Speakers Aminu Masari, Patricia Etteh, and Yakubu Dogara, as well as several serving and former governors and national stakeholders.

Describing the symposium as more than a birthday celebration, Obi said the occasion served as a “clarion call for unity and service” at a time when the nation is grappling with deep-seated challenges.

In his goodwill message, Obi stressed that Nigeria’s survival and progress rest on its ability to unite across political, ethnic, and religious lines.

According to him, only a united front can effectively confront the country’s mounting problems, including poverty, insecurity, corruption, and weak governance.

Reflecting on Senator Tambuwal’s public life, Obi described him as a leader whose legacy is defined not by longevity in office but by a consistent commitment to what is right.

He praised Tambuwal as a strong advocate of national cohesion and commended his dedication to key sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture, noting that true leadership is demonstrated by investing in people and productivity.

Obi lamented that despite Nigeria’s vast human and natural resources, disunity and ineffective leadership have continued to stifle the nation’s potential. He argued that with unity and competent governance, Nigeria could shift from a consumption-driven economy to a production-oriented one, strengthen agriculture and manufacturing, and build an inclusive and prosperous society.

“It is fitting that we celebrate Senator Tambuwal today,” Obi said, describing him as a champion of dialogue, unity, and national cohesion. He added that Nigeria’s future would not be shaped by those who thrive on division, but by leaders who promote collaboration and shared purpose.

Obi concluded by wishing Senator Tambuwal good health, renewed strength, and greater opportunities for service as he marks his 60th birthday, reaffirming his belief that “a new Nigeria is possible.”
