ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and Nigeria’s former Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has expressed deep anguish over the worsening wave of kidnappings across the country, particularly the abductions of schoolchildren and teachers from learning institutions.
In an emotional statement released on Sunday via her X handle, Okonjo-Iweala said she was “greatly saddened” by the recurring attacks targeting children, describing the situation as heartbreaking for families forced to live in fear and uncertainty.
“As a mother, I am greatly saddened by the kidnappings in our country, particularly of our children and teachers from places of learning,” she said. “My heart goes out to the children and all those kidnapped, and to their families living in fear and uncertainty.”
She prayed for the safe return of all abducted victims, calling on authorities and communities to intensify efforts to protect schools and vulnerable populations.
“May those taken be found, rescued, and returned safely into the arms of those who love them. We pray God for their protection and strength for every parent and relative waiting,” she added.
Precise Post recalls that her remarks come amid a renewed surge in school kidnappings in parts of northern Nigeria, heightening calls for stronger security interventions and urgent action to safeguard educational environments nationwide.
