ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Governor Alex Otti has commissioned the landmark Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal in Umuahia, describing the project as a major step in Abia State’s drive towards a modern, safe, and sustainable transport system.
Speaking at the inauguration of the multimodal transport hub, Otti said the facility is designed to accommodate more than 340 buses simultaneously and is integrated into the state’s expanding electric bus network.
The governor disclosed that 20 electric buses are already in operation, with additional units expected in the coming weeks, adding that the terminal is powered by independent electricity and water systems to ensure uninterrupted services.

Otti explained that the facility was named after Prof. Nnenna Nnennaya-Oti, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer during the 2023 governorship election, in recognition of what he described as her courage, integrity, and patriotism.
According to him, the naming of the terminal goes beyond honouring one individual, stressing that it also celebrates electoral officials, security personnel, party agents, and citizens who resisted intimidation and defended democracy during the election period.
In his address titled “Raising the Bar,” the governor declared that his administration had moved beyond what he called “the era of small ambitions,” insisting that Abia State would no longer be limited by low expectations.

He commended Planet Projects Limited for delivering the transport facility and also praised the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, the Senior Special Assistant on Transport, Dr. Obioma Nwaogbe, and their team for their contributions to the successful completion of the project.
Otti further urged residents and members of the host community to protect the facility from vandalism and maintain a clean environment, emphasizing that the terminal belongs to the people.
The governor also called on Abians to pay their taxes regularly, noting that sustainable development requires collective responsibility and consistent revenue generation.
