PDP Will Bounce Back Stronger If …, Reps Minority Leader Chinda Says

ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives and member representing Obio- Akpor federal constituency in Rivers State, Rt Hon Kingsley Chinda has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will come out from its current crisis stronger if they become a little more selfless and selfish.

The vocal federal lawmaker said “once we do that, I’m sure that some of the problems you see in our party today, you will see no more.”

He stated this on Wednesday while fielding questions from newsmen who came to felicitate with him on the ocassion of his birthday celebration.

Hon Chinda who was reacting to the poser that the PDP has lost its steam as main opposition party due to crisis rocking the party and the consequent but rather unfortunate tilt towards a one party state ahead of 2017, said, “let me assure everybody, PDP has always been like that, we have had in house fighting before and we always come out stronger. This one will not be different, wait until the congresses, the national convention of all the parties come and go, then you can pass a proper judgment”.

According to him, the important thing is for us – the PDP, to put our house in order. Let me also tell you, the All Progressives Congress (APC) will be happy that we are in tartas, just like we also will be happy to see the APC in crisis, and we are praying for that. So what we need to do is for us to go back to the drawing board, put the country first, and put self after country, and we can make it. I still believe that we can make it. It is the individuals that make the party.

On his take about the Supreme Court ruling that restored Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the PDP, the federal lawmaker said that the judgement of the Supreme Court was clear on its ruling which set aside the Enugu State High Court judgement and the judgement of the Court of Appeal Enugu Division which had earlier ruled in favour of Mr. Ude Okoye.

Hon. Chinda who is also lawyer clarified that the court in throwing away the ruling of the lower courts, affirmed that the plaintiff in the case was a meddlesome interloper who had no basis to go to court in the first instance and also affirmed that Ude Okoye could not have been validly appointed a Secretary of the party when there was no vacancy in the secretary’s seat in the party.

In his words: “On the issue of supreme court judgment, it is clear, I will advise that people should endeavour to read before they come to public space to attempt to deceive the public. It doesn’t pay us. It’s embarrassing as a political party that a judgment of court will be given, and then you hear people misinterpreting the judgment and giving various interpretations even within very high level of the party.

“Look, let me tell you that judgment must not be in my favour. But once there is a judgment, there is a judgment, and if it is Supreme Court, I don’t have any option than to align with it and look for a way to ensure that we make progress. The judgment is clear.

“The appeal of Senator Samuel Anyanwu was upheld. The Judgment of the lower court was set aside, the judgment of the Court of Appeal was set aside, and the Court ruled that, look, the person who brought the suit actually not our brother, Ude Okoye, the person who brought the suit, that the person was a busy body, and Ude Okoye himself an interloper and that Sen Sam Anyanwu was never removed from office. And so he remains the national secretary of the party.

We have a legal adviser. I think that if anybody is in doubt, please approach the national legal adviser of the party who is in a position to tell you clearly what the position of the Supreme Court is not for the National Publicity Secretary to cause the kind of confusion that is causing.
