Police Chief Promotes Religious Harmony, Assures Tight Security Nationwide During Ramadan, Lent

ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –   The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Thursday hosted a landmark interfaith Iftar and Lent dinner for officers of the Nigeria Police Force at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, in a move aimed at fostering unity and mutual respect among personnel of different religious backgrounds.

According to the statement released on the Official X handle of the Nigeria Police Force e-signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, DCP ANTHONY OKON PLACID psc(+) mni, the event, described as the first of its kind at the Force Headquarters, brought together Muslim and Christian officers in a symbolic gathering to promote interfaith harmony, tolerance, and cohesion within the Force.
Among dignitaries present were Amos Yohanna of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs; Jafar Yakubu of the House Committee on Police Affairs; President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, Oluwafumilola Disu; Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Mohammed Sheidu; retired Assistant Inspector-General, Hakeem Odumosu; and Imam Musa of the Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, Abuja branch, among other stakeholders.


In his remarks, IGP Disu highlighted the spiritual significance of both Ramadan and Lent, describing them as seasons of reflection, sacrifice, and service. He noted that despite differences in faith, officers remain united by shared values such as discipline, compassion, and dedication to duty.
The police chief stressed that religious harmony within the Force is critical to enhancing professionalism and improving service delivery, urging officers to uphold the virtues of peace, tolerance, and selflessness during the holy periods.


He also reassured Nigerians of heightened security across the country, stating that the Force has intensified deployments, surveillance, and proactive policing strategies across all commands and formations to guarantee a peaceful festive season.
Precise Post recalls that the interfaith gathering underscores the leadership’s commitment to unity and inclusiveness within the Nigeria Police, as part of broader efforts to strengthen internal cohesion and public confidence in the Force.
