ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday lauded the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for his leadership in delivering key infrastructure in Abuja, stating that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would gladly welcome the minister should he decide to join the ruling party.
Speaking at the commissioning of Arterial Road N16 — a major link between Shehu Shagari Way and Wole Soyinka Way in the Maitama District — Tinubu praised the Wike-led FCT Administration for its team-oriented execution of the 3.7-kilometre project, which includes interchanges, flyovers, and feeder roads.
“He’s not a member of my party — not yet,” the President quipped amid applause. “But the day he changes his mind and registers with the Progressives, we will welcome him because we will enjoy him singing as ‘e dey sweet us’.”
The President emphasized that the new road represents more than just asphalt and concrete — it symbolizes his administration’s commitment to transformation through its Renewed Hope Agenda. He added that the project will ease congestion in central Abuja and unlock development in surrounding districts such as Katampe, Jahi, and Bwari.
Tinubu commended traditional rulers and local communities for supporting the peaceful relocation of affected residents. “The government has played its part. I urge you to protect this infrastructure and use it wisely,” he said.
Reaffirming his administration’s infrastructure-driven approach to national development, President Tinubu stated: “Infrastructure is the bedrock of national competitiveness, growth, and economic opportunity… We invest in roads, rail, power, healthcare, education, and digital infrastructure. We can only unlock Nigeria’s full potential through this coordinated and integrated development.”
In his remarks, Wike credited Tinubu for restoring contractor and public confidence in government, noting that the Arterial Road N16 was one of the President’s flagship projects — not inherited from previous administrations. He said the project was awarded in September 2023 and commenced in October.
“No contract that you have awarded under the city was abandoned,” Wike said. “By the time you mark your third anniversary next year, virtually all the contracts awarded under your administration will have been completed, to the glory of God.”
The minister also highlighted the strategic importance of the road, pointing out that it links key judicial and administrative zones, including the Court of Appeal, the Federal High Court, and judges’ quarters.
Wike, known for his fiery political commentary, declared that Tinubu’s visible achievements had neutralized opposition narratives. “Your good works have defeated the coalition,” he said, instructing aides to ensure national television stations broadcast daily project inaugurations. “They have no choice but to watch Mr. President for the next 17 days.”
