Rivers Crisis: Why Fubara must liberate himself – Rufai Oseni

As the political crisis between the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and his godson and Governor of Imo State, Simintari Fubara takes a dangerous dimension, popular Arise Television presenter, Oseni Rufai has given reason why Governor Fubara must liberate himself instead of relying on Aso Villa for assistance.

Rufai who took to his x account @ruffydfire (formerly twitter) to advice the Rivers State Governor, recalled that when president Tinubu was governor of Lagos, he guarded his territory strongly from Federal intervention. Adding that Tinubu went at loggerheads with the federal government over LCDA matters and sundry issues and maintained his independence.

The Arise TV presenter now asked: “why do we think hypocritically now that President must intervene in Rivers state when the governor is the chief security officer. More so that similar thing is playing out in Ondo and the president hasn’t intervened all this while.

Rufai’s full advice via X reads in full:

When president Tinubu was governor in Lagos he guarded his territory strongly from Federal intervention. He went at loggerheads with the federal government over LCDA matters and sundry issues. He maintained his independence, so why do we think hypocritically now that President must intervene in Rivers state when the governor is the chief security officer. The same thing is playing out in Ondo but the president hasn’t intervened all this while because Aketi is no push over( not that I endorse his actionsagainst his deputy). Gov Fubara must liberate himself at some point.

Recall that Governor Fubara has fallen out with his political father over attempt by Wike to turn the incumbent Governor to his puppet. Wike was said to have demanded for N20billion every month and awarding the contracts to himself. Upon his refusal to continue with the dictates of Wike, he is now trying to use the Rivers State Assembly to impeach the Governor and force his Deputy to resign to pave way for his kinsman, the Speaker of the State Assembly to become the Governor.

The FCT MInister while reacting to these allegations said: “If I demand N20 billion every month and even award all the contracts to myself, that’s politics. Where was he when I was fighting. I have to be politically relevant and I must maintain my political structure. I can’t allow anybody to cut me out immediately”
