ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has highlighted Nigeria’s vast but untapped potential, using the global stage of the Super Bowl to underscore what Nigerians can achieve when given the right opportunities.
In a statement shared on his X handle Sunday, Obi said that as he prepared to watch the Super Bowl, he was reminded of Nigeria’s extraordinary human capital, noting that three Nigerians featured prominently on one of the world’s biggest sporting stages.
He mentioned Michael Onwenu of the New England Patriots and Uchenna Nwosu of the Seattle Seahawks, as well as Seattle Seahawks’ reigning Offensive Player of the Year, Jason Smith-Njigba, whom he described as being of Nigerian heritage.
According to Obi, their success is no coincidence but the product of discipline, opportunity, and functional systems that identify, nurture, and reward talent.
“Watching them, one cannot help but reflect on what Nigerians can achieve when provided with the right environment to thrive,” he said.
Obi argued that Nigeria’s challenges are not rooted in a lack of talent but in persistent leadership failures. He maintained that with visionary, competent, and transparent leadership focused on building strong institutions, investing in people, and ensuring equal opportunities, Nigerians could excel not only in sports but across science, technology, business, education, and other sectors.
“Nigeria is not lacking in talent. What we have lacked for too long is leadership that unleashes that talent,” Obi stated.
Precise Post recalls that Obi added that once leadership is fixed, Nigeria would move beyond mere participation on the global stage to consistent excellence and leadership.
“A new Nigeria is POssible,” he concluded.
