LAGOS- A Tech Policy Advisor, Mr Jide Awe, has urged members of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) to elect leaders who will drive meaningful digital transformation and invest in the country’s youths.
Awe, who is the Founder of Jidaw.com and a registered NCS member, made the call in a statement on Saturday ahead of the society’s Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) where new national executives would be elected.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NCS National Executive Council (NEC) 2025 general elections will hold on Aug. 14, 2025, during its Conference/AGM at the Coronation Hall, Kano Government House, Kano State.
Awe said the NCS must go beyond being an association to serve as a national backbone for computing development, digital skills growth, and innovation.
According to him, the choice of leaders in the coming election will determine whether the society empowers the youth or allows talent to waste and migrate abroad.
“We need leaders who will champion curriculum reform, create inclusive platforms for access to skills and tools, build mentorship programmes, partner with the private sector, and bring more youths and women into leadership roles,” Awe said.
He emphasised that business as usual would not secure Nigeria’s digital sovereignty in a fast-changing global technology space.
Awe called for voters to prioritise vision, competence, empathy, collaboration, and a purpose-driven approach in their decision-making.
Eligible voters, he said, must be professional or corporate members who are financially up to date, formally inducted, and registered for the conference either physically or virtually.
NAN reports that the positions to be contested include President, Deputy President, chairmen of key committees such as Conferences, Innovation and Research, Credentials, Ethics and Disciplinary, Education and Manpower Development, Publicity, Audit, as well as Zonal Coordinators for the six geo-political zones.
To qualify, candidates must be full members for at least five years, registered with the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) for a minimum of three years.
Such candidates must also be financially up-to-date with both bodies, active in their local chapter, and have attended specified NCS and CPN events in the last three year. (NAN)
