Rivers State Crisis: Fubara’s Camp Addresses Defection Rumors, Denies Plans to Join ADC

by Joy: News Admin

The Siminalayi Fubara-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has responded to mounting speculation that the embattled Governor may defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following a wave of defections among his loyalists.

Sydney Gbara, Publicity Secretary of the Fubara faction, categorically denied any such plans, stating that the Governor has not indicated any intention to exit the PDP.

This comes amid reports that a number of Fubara’s supporters have dumped the PDP and are now aligning with former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, who is reportedly eyeing the ADC’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

A political source told Daily Post:

“There has been a significant exodus of PDP members loyal to Fubara, many of whom are now pledging support to Amaechi through the ADC. The latest intelligence suggests the Governor himself may soon leave the PDP, though it’s unclear whether he will join ADC or align with the ruling party at the national level.”

In response, Gbara maintained that Governor Fubara remains fully committed to the PDP—at least for now.

“The Governor has not communicated any plans to leave the PDP or join a coalition. As far as we are concerned, we are still very much in the PDP,” Gbara stated.

He also acknowledged the right of political associates to realign as they see fit:

“Politics is about personal choices. People are free to support any party or leader they prefer. However, many of us remain loyal to Governor Fubara, and wherever his interests lie, ours will follow.”

Gbara added that while defections from the Governor’s camp are not being ignored, they do not signify an official position from Fubara himself.

“If the Governor ever declares that we’re moving to another party, I’ll personally follow him. But until then, our loyalty remains with the PDP.”
