ABUJA- Nigerian singer Chukwuka Ekweani, popularly known as CKay, has officially ended his deal with Warner Music South Africa, marking a fresh chapter in his music career.
The ‘Love Nwantiti’ star announced his departure in a statement shared on Friday, where he expressed gratitude to the international label and teased new ventures.
“Every journey has a beginning and an end, and my journey with Warner Music South Africa was significant, which I’m grateful for. Now it’s time for me to explore new energy and horizons,” CKay said.
The singer, who shot to international fame with his 2019 breakout hit Love Nwantiti, initially joined Chocolate City in 2015. Under that label, he released his second EP, CKay the First, which housed the viral track.
In 2021, CKay confirmed he had moved on from Chocolate City to Warner Music South Africa. His time with the company helped elevate his profile on the global stage.
However, the Afrobeats star has now opted for independence.
In August 2024, CKay and his childhood friend, Joseph Salubi, launched their own label, Boyfriend Music. He revealed that the new platform was built to ensure fairness for creatives in the industry, especially in royalty distribution.
The singer has often spoken about how he defied his parents’ wishes to pursue music full-time—a gamble that ultimately paid off.
With his Warner chapter closed, fans are eager to see where CKay’s journey leads next.
