ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu for allegedly failing to visit Bayelsa State since assuming office, promising that his administration would maintain regular contact with the people if elected president.
Obi made the remarks on Saturday, October 31, 2026, on his x handle after the homecoming ceremony organised in honour of former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Henry Seriake Dickson, in Yenagoa on Friday.
Obi, who travelled from Enugu to attend the ceremony, said it was inappropriate that Tinubu had yet to spend a night in Bayelsa State after more than three years in office, despite spending over 260 days outside the country.
He assured the people of Bayelsa that such a situation would not occur under his leadership, pledging to regularly visit the state to interact directly with residents, understand their challenges and address their concerns.
The former presidential candidate also outlined an ambitious port development agenda for the Niger Delta, promising to upgrade existing ports in Warri, Port Harcourt and Calabar.
He further pledged to initiate the construction of the long-delayed Ibaka Seaport in Akwa Ibom State and establish a new port in Bayelsa to improve maritime activities, facilitate economic development and better serve riverine communities across the Niger Delta.
Obi also reiterated his commitment to national unity and security, promising to tackle corruption, increase investments in healthcare and education, and implement policies aimed at lifting Nigerians out of poverty.
The visit climaxed with Obi joining Senator Dickson in a traditional canoe war game and boat regatta in the senator’s hometown of Toru-Orua, Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
Congratulating Dickson on his successful homecoming, Obi commended the national and state leadership of their party, members and the people of Bayelsa for the successful organisation of the ceremony and the warm reception accorded him.
Precise Post recalls that Dickson is the national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) where Obi emerged as the presidential flagbearer.
