Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday February 13, 2026, the Chairman of the Commission clarified that earlier reports claiming the timetable had already been published were inaccurate.
He explained that the announcement followed the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act 2022, as amended, which guide the planning and conduct of elections across the country.
According to INEC, the presidential election will take place on February 20, 2027, while governorship, senatorial and other elections are scheduled for March 6, 2027.
The electoral body noted that the timetable is intended to give political parties, candidates and stakeholders sufficient time to prepare for the polls.
INEC also assured Nigerians of its commitment to transparent and credible elections, emphasising that further details and guidelines will be released in due course.
