ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has issued a strong advisory to Nigerians on the responsible use of United States visas, cautioning against any form of misuse or violation of visa conditions.
Speaking on the matter, NOA Director General, Mallam Lanre Onilu, emphasized that obtaining a U.S. visa is not the end of the vetting process, as American authorities continually monitor the activities of visa holders even after entry into the country, the statement signed by the Director, Communication and Media, Bala Musa made available to Precise Post on Thursday in Abuja said.
According to the statement, the NOA DG warned that any breach of visa conditions, including overstaying or engaging in unauthorized activities, could result in visa revocation, deportation, or a permanent travel ban.
“Your action is harming the chances for other Nigerians with genuine reasons to visit the U.S.,” Onilu stated, highlighting how individual misconduct can have broader implications for the entire nation.
He further advised Nigerian travelers to comply with U.S. customs and immigration regulations, including declaring all excess cash above the legal limit upon arrival and avoiding the carriage of contraband items.
The NOA DG also addressed Nigerian students in the U.S., urging them to regularize their visa status before expiration to avoid legal complications. Additionally, he cautioned that applying for a tourist visa with the intention of giving birth in the U.S. for citizenship purposes could lead to visa denial by consular officers.
Onilu reiterated the United States’ commitment to maintaining high screening standards aimed at safeguarding national security while promoting lawful travel. He called on Nigerians to uphold integrity in their travel practices to ensure a transparent and fair visa process for all.
