OWERRI- The Imo Police Command has deployed a Special Tactical Squad to hunt down hoodlums responsible for the attack on Correctional Service Farm Settlement at Umualomoke in Okigwe Local Government Area of the state. The command’s Spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Owerri. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some hoodlums reportedly attacked the farm settlement and the residence of Sen. Patrick Ndubeze in the early hours of Monday. Okoye said the attackers forced the release of seven inmates and abducted a correctional officer in charge of the settlement. He said a Police Inspector was also killed during the attack. Okoye said the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Aboki Danjuma, who deployed the squad, also visited the scenes of the crime for on-the-spot assessment of the incidents. “The CP mandated the special squad operatives to intensify efforts in ensuring that the officer-in-charge of the farm settlement is rescued unhurt and the fleeing inmates arrested,” he stated. AWKA- Anambra government has arrested a 38-year-old woman for attempting to sell her nine-year-old and seven-year-old sons for N1 million each. Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo, told newsmen on Wednesday in Awka that the woman’s eldest daughter, a 17-year-old, was also arrested for being part of the scheme. Obinabo said the accused and her eldest daughter were arrested when she (the commissioner) posed as a potential buyer of the boys after she got the hint of the transaction. “I heard about the transaction and decided to pose as a buyer. Three police officers dismissed for armed robbery

OGUN- The Nigeria police have dismissed three officers over alleged armed robbery and extortion in Ogun State The officers were identified as Inspector Taiwo Kolawole, Inspector John Ogbe and Cpl Idowu Sunday, all attached to the Ijebu-Ife division. Plateau: Police arrest 17 suspects over killings in Mangu, Bokkos

JOS- The police command in Plateau has arrested 17 suspects in connection with the recent attacks and killings in Mangu, Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local government areas (LGAs) of the state. DSP Alfred Alabo, the police public relations officer (PPRO) of the command, disclosed this while addressing journalists on Thursday in Jos. Mr Alabo said eight of the suspects were arrested in connection with the Christmas Eve attacks, while the other nine were arrested in connection with the January 24 attacks. ”The command is grateful to inform you that the situation in Mangu and environs, as at today, is under control. ”So far, 17 suspects have been arrested, eight from the December 24 attack and the nine suspects arrested in connection with the January 24 attacks. ”Exhibits recovered from them include dangerous weapons, such as machetes, kegs containing petrol, and other items,” he said. Police say explosion in Abuja not bomb related

ABUJA- The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said the explosion that occured near a refuse dump outside the Bureau of Public Enterprise premises in Maitama area of Abuja was not bomb related. The Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT. SP Josephine Adeh, said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja. She said a rapid response team and members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit was deployed to assess the situation after the alleged incident on Wednesday. According to her, preliminary findings indicate than an overheated  metal refuse container activated under intense heat, exploded, and injured two of  the refuse evacuators. She said the affected refuse evacuators were currently receiving medical attention in Maitama General Hospital. Adeh urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from using metal refuse bins. LAGOS- The police in Lagos State has arrested a man, who attempted to sell his company’s car so as to raise money to relocate his family to Ghana. ADO-EKITI- Two siblings, Oluwadunsin Aregbesola, 24, female and Oluwatoyin Aregbesola, 19, male, were on Friday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting police officers. The defendants, of unknown addresses, are facing a two-count charge of assault. The police prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendants and one other now at large, committed the offence on Jan. 10 in Ado-Ekiti. Gunmen kill 96 persons, raze 221 houses in Plateau – Police

JOS- Gunmen attacked 15 communities in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau on Christmas eve, killed 96 persons and destroyed 221 houses. The assailants also destroyed eight vehicles and 27 motorcycles, police spokesman in the state, DSP Alfred Alabo, stated on Tuesday in Jos. “On Dec. 24, at about 10 p.m., gunmen attacked 15 villages in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas simultaneously. “Findings from the assessment of the incident in Bokkos revealed that the 12 villages were attacked; more than 79 persons killed and 221 houses were set ablaze. “Twenty-seven motorcycles and eight vehicles were equally burnt down. “Three communities were attacked in Barkin-Ladi where 17 persons were killed. “Investigation and monitoring are still on and further development will be communicated soon,’’ Alabo stated. IBADAN- The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed two special constables, Kareem Fatai and Jimoh Abdul-Lukman, for demanding money from a Dutch tourist in the state.
