Former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, has expressed his support for the call to release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
In a letter shared by human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, on (formerly Twitter), Wabara commended the initiative to organise a peaceful march demanding Kanu’s release.
The ex-lawmaker lauded Sowore’s leadership in the campaign scheduled for October 20, 2025, but noted that he would be unable to participate in person due to an ongoing medical trip abroad.
“I have been informed about the planned protest on the 20th of October, calling for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. I wish to commend your efforts and those of others who continue to speak up for justice and fairness in our country,” Wabara wrote.
“Unfortunately, I am out of the country and will not be able to join you physically on that day. However, please know that I am with you in spirit and in full support of every peaceful effort aimed at securing justice and national reconciliation. I wish you and all participants a peaceful and successful outing.”
News reports that Sowore has been mobilising for the protest, urging Southeast governors, lawmakers, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to participate in the peaceful demonstration.
He disclosed that he had reached out to several notable Igbo leaders, including Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to join the campaign for Kanu’s release.
