The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured that the South-West region will not abandon President Bola Tinubu when he seeks re-election in 2027.

This assurance came through the party’s spokesman, Seye Oladejo, who dismissed claims by supporters of PDP presidential aspirant, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, that the South-West would not back Tinubu in the next election.

Oladejo described Olawepo-Hashim as a “perennial aspirant” without the political structure or grassroots strength to mount a serious national challenge.

He said:

“Olawepo-Hashim is simply a convenient mascot for opposition desperation. Endorsements at small rallies and photocopied letterheads cannot translate into votes. In the unlikely event that he clinches the PDP ticket, he would be roundly defeated at the polls.”

The APC spokesman stressed that President Tinubu’s administration is already delivering in infrastructure, agriculture, education, security, and fiscal reforms, laying what he called “visible and irreversible foundations” for national progress.

He accused the opposition of peddling “selective statistics” and “currency rhetoric” because they cannot defend their own record of “waste, arrogance, and economic mismanagement.”

Oladejo maintained that Nigerians will not be deceived into abandoning the current path of reforms for what he called the PDP’s “recycled excuses.”

“In 2027, voters will choose continuity with a president who has provided direction and results, not the empty spectacle offered by political tourists,” he declared.

The Lagos APC concluded that the South-West will remain solidly behind President Tinubu, warning the opposition to stop “insulting the intelligence of Nigerians with press releases disguised as governance.”

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has dismissed any hope of unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections, declaring that “there is no vacancy in Aso Rock until 2031.”

Speaking during a media engagement titled “Moment with Sen. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru” in Ibadan, organized by Zone B of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Senator Basiru addressed mounting speculation over a growing coalition by opposition figures seeking to challenge Tinubu’s re-election.

He stated that anyone with political ambition to contest the presidency should “reserve their resources until 2031,” affirming that Tinubu’s seat is not up for grabs in 2027.

Opposition Accused of Self-Interest

Senator Basiru dismissed reports of Northern opposition to President Tinubu’s re-election bid as “false and politically motivated.” He described those fueling such claims as disgruntled politicians who had failed to develop the North when they had the opportunity.

“The noise from these so-called opposition leaders is not about national development, it’s about protecting selfish interests and personal ambition. The North is solidly behind APC and President Tinubu,” he asserted.

He emphasized that APC continues to enjoy overwhelming support in Northern Nigeria, citing recent political developments and appointments.

North Firmly Behind Tinubu – Basiru

“Go to Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, and Gombe—President Tinubu is widely celebrated. I have personally toured these regions, and the support is undeniable,” Basiru said.

He added that in Katsina, all political party structures had aligned in support of President Tinubu’s 2027 agenda. In Kaduna, under Governor Uba Sani, APC remains the dominant political force. He also pointed to APC’s strong presence in the National Assembly and the recent defection of Senator Kawu from Kano to the party.

“In Sokoto, under the leadership of Senator Wamako, the APC remains a major force. In Kebbi, Senator Adamu Aliero—who won two senatorial zones—is within our party. These are facts,” he said.

He also highlighted major federal interventions, such as the ₦120 billion support to Gombe State for livestock development and mechanisation for 40,000 farmers in Katsina, as examples of Tinubu’s commitment to Northern development.

“Governor Yari confirmed that under President Tinubu, transporting goods from the North to the South is no longer a nightmare. These initiatives are driving stronger support for his second term,” Basiru stated.

On Coalition Politics

Senator Basiru criticized the idea of a so-called opposition coalition, describing it as “confused and incompatible” with Nigeria’s presidential system.

“You can’t be in the Labour Party and at the same time in the ADC. Coalition politics of that nature is alien to our constitution and reeks of political desperation,” he said.

“No serious politician will abandon a solid, credible, and tested platform like the APC to chase shadows in unfamiliar, unstable alliances.”

Basiru urged Nigerians not to be misled by opposition rhetoric, stressing that the APC remains the only viable political machinery capable of steering Nigeria forward under Tinubu’s leadership.

Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, has declared that the South-East geopolitical zone is firmly behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and will actively support his re-election bid in 2027.

Speaking to journalists on Friday night in Lagos, Umahi commended President Tinubu’s performance so far, particularly in infrastructure and economic reforms, stating that the President has proven himself to be a “listening and responsive leader.”

The minister dismissed claims that the South-East is attaching conditions — such as the release of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu — to its political support for the President.

“Someone asked me about Nnamdi Kanu, and I made it clear: his case is not a condition for the South-East to support President Tinubu,” Umahi said.
“We are open to negotiating his release, but it must not be politicized. The President didn’t put him there.”

Umahi expressed optimism that Kanu’s release would come through dialogue and divine intervention, not political coercion.

“President Tinubu may not be perfect, but he is doing most things right,” he added.
“Look at the state of the economy when he took office. Today, there is renewed international confidence in Nigeria, and that’s reflected in the support we are receiving for our projects.”

He went on to highlight several ongoing infrastructure initiatives in the South-East, including the rehabilitation of long-neglected federal roads, as evidence of Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive development.

Addressing allegations that the South-East is being marginalized in federal appointments, Umahi countered that no previous administration had done as much for the region in such a short time.

“Critics should point to what they’ve done for the country,” he challenged.
“President Tinubu has empowered the South-East in ways that are tangible and measurable.”

Umahi also called for unity among political leaders across party lines, noting that South-East governors — including those from opposition parties — are working collaboratively with the Tinubu administration to deliver development to the region.

He further clarified that he has no presidential ambitions for 2027 and remains committed to supporting President Tinubu.

“I will not run for president. I will work for my boss, President Tinubu,” he affirmed.
“The APC is the platform through which we can achieve our goals. The South-East now has a voice at the centre, and we will not go back to where we were.”
