Armed bandits have reportedly abducted a businessman identified as Alhaji Adam Barau El-Duniya, his wife, and children in Shinkafi town, Zamfara State.
The attack reportedly occurred on Wednesday night when the assailants stormed El-Duniya’s residence, firing sporadically before forcibly gaining entry.
According to Bakatsine, a conflict and crisis journalist in northwest Nigeria, the bandits shot sporadically before breaking into the businessman’s house. They took him, his wife, and his children.
It is not clear how many children were taken.
This incident follows another attack in the Gidan Gara area of Shinkafi town less than 24 hours earlier.
“Yesterday night, bandits invaded Alhaji Adam Barau El-Duniya residence in Shinkafi town, Shinkafi LGA of Zamfara State. They abducted him, his wife and his children.
“This is the second attack in two days in the town, following the one that took place early on January 14, 2025, in the Gidan Gara area of Shinkafi town,” Bakatsine said.
Shinkafi and its neighbouring villages have been plagued by a series of violent attacks in recent weeks, leaving the population living in fear. Authorities are yet to comment on the latest incidents.
When contacted by SaharaReporters, Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, Yazid Abubakar, stated that the police were unaware of the incident but assured they would investigate and provide updates.
“I’m not aware of the incident. Where did it happen? Inside Shinkafi town? I will inquire from the command and get back to you,” he said.
Meanwhile, SaharaReporters recently reported how bandits kidnapped at least 46 people, including women and children, during a violent raid on Gana town in Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria.
The attack left the community in chaos as dozens of armed men on motorbikes stormed the area, firing indiscriminately and setting homes and businesses ablaze.
It was gathered that the bandits operated unchallenged for hours, rounding up their captives before retreating into the forest.
“They came in large numbers and started shooting. People ran in all directions, but they still managed to take many of our loved ones,” a resident said.
A local traditional leader, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the abductions, adding that the people kidnapped since Sunday included several women and children.
He lamented the lack of security presence in the area, describing the attack as a “devastating blow to the community.”
This incident comes on the heels of a similar mass kidnapping in Zamfara last month, raising concerns over escalating insecurity in the region.
