President Bola Tinubu has taken a step further to cut down on cost of governance by ordering that government officials must sought and obtain presidential approval at least two weeks in advance first before embarking on public funded foreign trips.
This directive which takes effect from April 1st 2024 and lasting for three months affects ministers, heads of agencies, and other government officials.
Such trips must be considered as essential in order to proceed.
Precise Post recalls that there have been calls from Nigerians that government officials should cut down their ostentacious and wasteful spending to reflect the mood and hardship in the country rather than constantly asking poor citizens to make sacrifice but doing just the direct opposite.
