ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –   Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has eulogised the late Chief Audu Ogbeh, describing him  as a “remarkable patriot” and a pioneering figure in Nigeria’s democratic journey.

Precise Post recalls that Atiku joined other political leaders in Abuja for a night of tributes in honour of the former minister and elder statesman.

Disclosing this on his Facebook page on Monday, said the event, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, served as a solemn reflection on the life and legacy of Ogbeh, who passed away recently.

Speaking at the Night of Tributes and Service of Songs, Atiku recalled his close working relationship with Ogbeh, particularly during the formative years of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as Nigeria transitioned to democracy in 1999.

“His passing is a personal loss,” Atiku said. “I have always valued brilliant minds, and Audu was certainly one of them. We shared much in common, including joining the fight for democracy in our 30s.”

Atiku praised Ogbeh’s early entry into politics, noting that he was elected into the Benue State House of Assembly at just 32—a feat that exemplified youth participation in governance long before the modern “Not Too Young to Run” movement.

“His footprints in party politics, good governance, and public service are invaluable,” Atiku said, highlighting Ogbeh’s contributions as one of Nigeria’s youngest ministers and his lasting impact on the agriculture, steel, and communications sectors.

The former vice president added that Ogbeh’s death stirred a deep sense of nostalgia, recalling their shared commitment to building a better Nigeria.

“Audu played his part well and has gone home to rest,” he concluded. “My thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Ogbeh and the entire family.”

Ogbeh, who served in various ministerial roles under different administrations, was widely respected for his intellect, integrity, and dedication to national development.
