Abuja (Precise Post) – Ogenyi Onazi, Super Eagles midfielder, has revealed that former captain, Mikel Obi, has nothing against him as he always look up to the former Chelsea star as a mentor.
Onazi who just returned from injury said the rumour about his crisis with Mikel was just blown out of proportion as he never had any issue with the former junior international.
Onazi who expressed his happiness returning to action after suffering from injury for more than a year, said he looks up to Mikel as a mentor.
“I am back fully and hopefully before we start the next game in the national team, I am sure I will be back fully,” he said.
“Representing my country is a pride for me and it is a privilege and I don’t want to take that for granted, as much as I can still play, I will give my best.
“We have a lot of young players who are doing well, but it’s not just about how you are playing, struggling with position is not my thing, the coach knows my quality, and all he has been telling me is that when I am ready I am going to play.
“It was exciting for me, for someone just coming back after injury, you are expected to start from the bench, but for the coach to start me in the next game, it shows the level of confidence he has in my capability, after 55 minutes I told him I needed to rest.
“I have never been in the same level as Mikel so when the case of issues with Mikel arises, I took it as a rumour, I have never been in the same category with him, he is my senior and he has done a lot for me, so how can I argue with him?
