by Joy: News Admin

Veteran Nigerian entertainer, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has praised Nollywood actor Yul Edochie for publicly backing the call for a South-East presidency in Nigeria.

In a viral video that sparked conversations online, Edochie urged Nigerians to support the idea of giving the South-East region a chance to lead the nation — emphasizing fairness, inclusivity, and balanced representation among Nigeria’s regions.

A shift from Tinubu’s supporter to advocate for equity
The actor, who has been an outspoken supporter of President Bola Tinubu, had previously called on citizens to remain patient with the administration’s economic reforms, assuring that positive outcomes would eventually emerge.

However, Edochie’s latest statement marks a significant shift, as he openly declared that it is time for the South-East to take its turn at the helm of national leadership.

Charly Boy welcomes the change
Reacting on (formerly Twitter), Charly Boy expressed his delight over what he sees as Edochie’s new perspective.

“Yul Edochie finally sees the light. Thank God you don dey change lane,” Charly Boy wrote.

His comment suggests that even prominent Tinubu loyalists are starting to acknowledge the need for true national inclusion.

Edochie backs return of cashless policy
Meanwhile, Yul Edochie has also appealed to President Tinubu to reinstate the cashless policy introduced by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

In an Instagram post, the filmmaker argued that the policy had positively impacted Nigeria’s economy by:
Strengthening the naira
Lowering the prices of goods
Increasing the value of lower denomination notes like ₦5, ₦10, ₦20, and ₦50
Reducing kidnapping by limiting criminals’ access to physical cash

Edochie urged the government to reconsider the cashless system as part of broader economic reforms to stabilize the country.
