House of Representatives Member – Elect for Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Anambra state, Hon. Afam Victor Ogene, has thanked the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for making the mistakes that produced the Labour Party’s 35-member elect.
Hon. Ogene, who is former Deputy Chairman, Media and Public Affairs Committee of the 7th House of Representatives, disclosed this in the on-going retreat of the minority parties of the in-coming 10th Assembly.
The leader of Labour Party House of Representatives caucus noted that what is binding them together is the fact that they are all in the opposition and being in the opposition doesn’t mean descent.
According to the federal lawmaker, being in the opposition simply means keeping the governing party on it’s toes and if we can’t do that and even from the simplest task which is constitutionally assigned to us, talking about the House of Representatives, section 51(b) of the Constitution says, that members are to choose their own speaker and Deputy Speaker from among themselves.
Even before that function is discharged, some people have chosen Speaker and Deputy Speaker for us and we are watching. There is an audio opposition and there is a visible opposition.
If the PDP is ready to lead the charge of the visible opposition, we are ready to go along with them. But if they want to stay on the audio side and be an opposition party in name, then I will assure you that the Labour Party as small as we are just 35-member elect, we will lead the charge on behalf of the Nigerian people to create a new Nigeria.
